// Sometimes I find myself people-watching

Although I wouldn't consider myself someone who's observant of their surrounding—my situational awareness is pretty awful—more often than not I find myself watching the people around me. Here's a few things I've noticed that made me go "wow, this is an incredibly human thing."

  • bus drivers waving to each other when they drive pass
    • I only noticed this recently, I don't know how I didn't realize sooner! the first time I saw it I felt so giddy; it's such an endearing gesture.
    • I've not seen this on a public bus yet, but a quick google search tells me that this is apparently a common bus driver etiquette! I thought this was only something student drivers do lol (the buses ran by my university which I take to commute are all driven by students)
  • people doomscrolling on their phones while on the bus. I've noticed that most of the times it's either instagram or tiktok, which I do have to wonder why that is? I'm on twitter 24/7 so that's my go-to. maybe it's the short-form video content.
  • oversharing in public or not being aware that someone else can hear your conversation. it's not really eavesdropping if you're talking loudly next to me and I just so happen to be tunning into the conversation as well, right? sometimes I hear conversations between friends out of context and it makes me go "wow other people have friends and have lives that I will never get to know, but are just as fulfilling/interesting if not more than mine". hmm I don't exactly know how to describe this feeling of the sudden recognition that this random stranger whom I've never met before and likely will never see again is the main characters of their own life, just as I am mine, and this world is filled with random strangers.
