// I Watched SFAWTDE and DAWTDE

Recently, I watched Destroying A World That Doesn't Exist (DAWTDE) by Wifies, which is the sequel to Searching For A World That Doesn't Exist (SFAWTDE), a Minecraft ARG-style webseries. SFAWTDE periodically showed up in my Recommended and never went away, so one day I finally gave into my curiosity and watched the video, and I have to say quite enjoyed it. I learned that the sequel dropped through a tweet that said something along the lines of "this video ruined me" (because it was so good and so devastating), so I was like "wtf could be going on in a minecraft arg to get people like this" and hell yeah I'm sat. Anyways, all this build-up is to say I watched DAWTDE and HELLO WHY IS THERE DOOMED YAOI IN A MINECRAFT ARG????? I knew SFAWTDE was a huge hit, but somehow it never occurred to me that it would garner a fandom. Imagine my surprise when I browsed the #sfawtde tag on twitter. So many fanart wow! So many talented artist!! It even has 1000+ fics on AO3 which is like, a lot. It's basically this meme:

Maybe I will write more about SF/DAWTDE more in the future if I get super into it, but that is not the main focus of this blog post. I don't watch much Minecraft content nowadays, but I used to be super into watching Taiwanese Minecraft Youtubers back in 2017–2020. This awesome series reminded me of that era. This was so peak 😭😭😭 The first episode of the original series came out in 2015 and went on for 101 episodes. It was then rebooted in 2017 with 10 episodes. I think the original series wasn't much of a role play; it was normal Minecraft survival gameplay but with a bunch of mods. The rebooted series, however, was full-on role play with a storyline complete with high stakes and drama. I can't say I remember much of it now, but what I do remember is that this was a phenomenon. Just look at the comments underneath the tribute animation, all the people reminiscing. Man.

Ok maybe it's a bit of a misnomer to call this a role play because, well, it isn't! If memory serves me right, I Wanna Go To Space doesn't have a story. It was two dudes playing survival mode on a space-themed Minecraft world. I can't help but mention it because it was truly something special—the hosts have great chemistry! The series is currently on indefinite hiatus and will most likely stay that way, with one of the hosts remaining inactive/retired from YouTube as of the time I'm writing this.

Yo when I started this post I swear I thought of more than 3 series to write but I guess not. Uhh now that I think about it, there wasn't much role play series at all huh at least in the Taiwanese MCYT scene. Almost all the ones I've came across were "survival series" where the host(s) play in survival mode with no storyline or clear end goal. If I think of more stuff I might add to this post in the future. Also I have two more blog post ideas about Taiwainese MCYT...! That stuff was my childhood man.
